Central High School students had an incredible opportunity to experience history firsthand with a visit to the Kansas State Capitol and the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site in Topeka. Walking through the Capitol gave students a chance to see where important decisions are made for our state, while the Brown v. Board site reminded us of a pivotal moment in American history that changed education forever. Learning about the fight for equal educational opportunities right here in Kansas helped bring history to life for our students. This past Friday, our JAG-K Students and Ms. Downing organized a wonderful Black History Month Assembly! The students took ownership of every piece of the assembly. There were poems, acrobats, dress-for-success segments, Guess Who, crowd involvement, dancing, basketball, singing, and more! Each portion is about making history right here and right now, mixed with Black History Facts. Great job by all. There are pics below, as well as a link to the recording of the entire assembly.

This past Thursday we had our Career Speaker Fair for Freshmen and Sophomores. Students were able to hear from 3 different Career Speakers. This goes along with our Individual Plans of Study. At Monday's Board Meeting Misti Wilson was recognized as an exceptional educator and a vital part of the AES team. As an interventionist, she provides intentional, high-quality support that makes a real difference for both students and teachers. She goes above and beyond to learn new initiatives and ensure staff feel confident and prepared—especially with Literacy Task requirements. In addition, Misti serves as our district’s ELL teacher, supporting multilingual learners with expertise and compassion while collaborating with staff across buildings.
