New to the District Enrollment and Information
Welcome to Atchison Public Schools! A growing school district, nearly 1,700 students attend its four schools. These include one elementary, a middle school, a high school, and an alternative school. All of the schools offer excellent educational opportunities as well as extracurricular activities to ensure each student's academic and personal success.
To enroll a new student in the district for the first time, the following information will be required by district schools:
For students in Grades PK-1
Proof of residency in the Atchison Public Schools district
Certified copy of birth certificate or other documentation
Immunization records
For students in Grades 2-12
Proof of residency in the Atchison Public Schools district
Immunization records
Certified transcript or similar student records

Non-Resident Student Enrollment
U.S.D. 409 accepts non-resident students in good standing in accordance with state law and Board of Education Policy JBCC. “Non-resident student” means a child of school age, pursuant to Kansas law, who resides in Kansas and is enrolled and in attendance at or seeking to enroll and attend a school located in a district where such student is not a resident.
On or before June 1st of each year, the district shall publish the number of open seats available to nonresident students in each grade level for each school building of the district for the next succeeding school year on the school district's website. Applications are accepted from January 1 through June 15 from non-resident students seeking to enroll in and attend the district the next school year.
