Whooping cough, (pertussis), is a serious illness in infants that can result in hospitalization and death. Physicians and public health officials recommend pertussis vaccination for all persons who have close contact with infants. Two cases of whooping cough were reported in Nemaha County located in Northeastern Kansas.
FREE VACCINE
The Kansas Immunization Program is offering Tdap vaccine to all interested parents and/or close contacts of infants less than 12 months of age at NO COST. Anyone who is a contact/close caregiver of an infant is eligible regardless of the insurance status. Up to two parents/contacts of an infant may receive the vaccine at no cost.
MAKE YOUR APPOINTMENT
Vaccine is now available at the Atchison County Health Department. Supply is limited at no cost. Appointments can be made by calling 913-367-5152. Office hours are Monday-Friday, from 8:00-12:00 pm and 1:00-4:00 pm. |
